Mixed Media Painting
Toucan will feature the bright colors and whimsical vision of two artists for the Artwalk on Friday, August 6 in downtown Billings.
The work of Florida artist Holly Manneck, who summers in Montana, deftly combines the sun-drenched hues of Florida with both the modern reality and the yearned for nostalgia of the Montana landscape of cows and cowboys. By isolating icons from her home in the West in the emulsion of her mind's eye, and then reconstituting them in the creative chemistry of her imagination, Holly develops a postmodern vision of place that she renders via bright colors, a sharp sense of design, and a decidedly witty visual vocabulary. The resulting paintings are clearly the artifacts of an ongoing investigation into what it means to be of a particular place in our human condition.

Toucan Gallery

Toucan is pleased to present new paintings by Holly Manneck for the August Artwalk in downtown Billings. The assimilation of experiences and knowledge gained through Holly's education and extensive travel has given her work its unique style. In her own words "What one finds exploring materials, subject matter and technique is not unlike what one finds when exploring the world, possibilities never imagined." She seeks to find these possibilities and bring a fresh spirit to her art so when viewed it has a universal appeal and enjoyed for what it is "ART".
Holly lives in Naples, Florida and spends summers in Montana.
Show - August-September
We're pleased to continue our exhibit of new paintings by Holly Manneck through the end of September. A unique aspect of Holly's life is that she divides her time between Florida and Montana, and this duality of experience finds its way into everything she paints. The vibrancy of a Floridian color palette combined with the poignancy of iconic imagery of the American West, all overlaid with the intellectual musing of a restless artistic soul, has created paintings of unique and enduring power. These are definitely paintings that need to be seen in person, as their spirit is palpable when you are in the presence of their energy, when you can feel the vibration of every artistic choice in your teeth.
"Rural Impact"
Danforth Gallery Livingston, Montana
Featuring Regional Paintings of Montana by Holly Manneck
Rural Impact, an exhibition of recent work by artists representing rural Montana in a variety of mediums, will be on display at the Danforth Gallery in Livingston from July 24th-August 22nd.
The exhibit will feature four visual artists and one toe-tapping musician, Ben Bullington, who will be livening up the spirit of the opening with songs from his latest CD, White Sulphur Springs.
Candace Miller, curator, will be joined by oil painter Holly Manneck, photographer Tom Ferris, jeweler Jennifer Walsh and sculptor Ursula Neese at the 2nd art-walk opening of the 2009 summer season.
Miller is a Livingston based architect with a firm located in the historic Livingston Train Depot. She has been designing homes for seventeen years that respond to the regionalism of the west. Miller has been featured in numerous books, and periodicals and Miller Architects was recently the recipient of the "2009-Western Home Of The Year Award", featured in Wall Street Journal by Dream Home National Awards.
Manneck, a Florida resident and part/time White Sulphur Springs area resident, will be showing a series of oil paintings depicting various places and themes from around White Sulphur Springs, Montana. Her work is larger than life in color and composition. Big bold colors mixed with rural landscapes open the door to new explorations for Manneck. "Color brings life and energy to my work, whatever the subject matter, representational or abstract, color leads the way", says Manneck.
